My father, Edward Michael Marmion, has done extensive research on Sir Robert de Marmion, our ancestor. He and my mother visited Tamworth castle several years back and were asked to sign the Royal guestbook. There was also a very quaint Tamworth bar in the town. When I divorced my exhusband, I took our family name--Marmion just did never sound "complete" to me, and I always knew, even when I was a very little girl, that it the correct spelling was "de Marmion". I used to tell my friends that this was the way it was supposed to be spelled! How I knew I'll never know, but what rich wonderful heritage to be blessed with. In case you are interested, we are related to Abbot Columba Marmion, who was recently beatified (canonized as a Saint) in the Catholic church. this is the second time I have added my comments to this page but would
like to give a little history to it My grand father and grandmother
came to Arkansas in a covered wagon from central Illnois in the late 1800s
His name was Bryant Merriman and hers was Alice [Henderson] MerrimanBryant died
in 1908 and alice died in 1947 , my father was Bryant Merriman born March
19 1900 died 1978 my mothers name was Josephine [Smothers] Merriman born 1903
died 1986 at Yellville Arkansas burried at the Peel Arkansas Cementary
my grandparents had 11 children some stayed this area others settled around

My family came to Columbus, OH via Galliapolis, OH, from Canonsburg, PA.
David Merriman was an itinerant weaver. I think he came from the
Merriman's in Baltimore, MD. He would have arrived in Canonsburgh circa
1819 and married Esther Coleman, daughter of Christopher Coleman and Ruth
Simpson Coleman. One of their sons, Thomas Jefferson Merriman apprenticed
to a pastry chef, and became a purser on a big Ohio river paddle wheel boat,
traveling from Pittsburgh to New Orleans. We have his cookbook (for
100's). His family lived up and down the river, finally settling in
Gallipolis, OH.

Excellent site. I see my brother has already visited it (hi George). Our
father was born in 1901 in Clifden, Co. Galway, in Ireland, but not of Irish
parents - his dad was a British Coastguard officer. I think his ancestors may
have lived around Carlton, in Nottinghamshire? One was a bloke called Henry
Merriman, an officer in the British army in India. Anyway, "kia ora"
(Maori for Hi) to all the Merrimans out there.

My Great Grandmother's name was Alice Frederica Merriman-born in
Mendham,NJ ,Aug.7,1843. She married my G. Grandfather
Col. Benj. Edw. Townsend married? Alice F. Merriman's parents were a
Dr.R.B. Merriman from Litchfield,Ct and he married a Caterine Lord Perry where
she died in Wallingford, Ct. in 1895 and my G. Great Grandfathwe R. B. Merriman
died in Mendham,NJ. I have no idea what branch of Merrimans my G.great

although it appears that my family do not originate from the Merrimans on here

work. My father was Philip Leonard Merriman, born April 1929 from

about 1820 in Warren Co., TN. He married Anny Scott in TX in 1843 and they

All MERRIMANs I knew were my grandma's generation and grey so
I don't know about the blond hair and blue eyes, except that I had both when
very young. My family did have a saying "And the Lord said unto Moses
That all Merrimans should have big noses Except Aaron And he should have a
square 'un!" We Yorkshire Merrimans do have rather large noses, though this
may come from the MOXON side of the family as other Merrimans I've corresponded
with claim not to be similarly afflicted.

Interested in some current info on my grandfather, William Merriman. I do
not know much about him, I do know that he was in the US army, and retired to
the hills of West Virginia. I believe he remarried and did not have any more
children. To my knowledge, he had only one child, my father. His name was
John David Merriman sr. He had only one son, yours truly. I have pictures and
names of four generations or so. But am having a hard time putting it all

Just took a chance and done a search on the web for the name
"Merriman". Came across your web site and found it very interesting.
You had my Dad's (Arthur David) name listed with the World War I veteran's, also
my Uncle Thomas Leslie. When I searched the Link to Thomas Merriman's Genealogy
from 1640 I found my Grandfathers name (Charles listed and most of his children.
There were the three youngest children missing and the Birth dates were all
wrong. If you wish to correct this please advise and I will provide you with the
